volume 3:
Dunaverty Golf Club
Tracks Less Taken
There are corners of Scotland where golf feels returned to its simplest form. Where the land dictates the experience and the game follows quietly behind. Dunaverty is one of those places.
Set on the western edge of Kintyre, just thirteen miles across the water from Northern Ireland, Dunaverty sits closer to the sea than to any idea of modern excess. Founded in 1889, it has endured by remaining true to its setting. The course has never needed reinvention. It has simply been allowed to be itself.
Short by scorecard measure, Dunaverty rewards sensitivity over strength. The links ground is natural and uneven, shaped by weather rather than machinery. Shots are rarely framed. Lies are rarely perfect. Each swing asks for judgement, restraint and an understanding of how the ball will react once it meets the ground.
The sea is a constant companion. Sometimes visible, sometimes only heard, its presence is never far from the swing. Wind moves across the course unchecked, influencing club choice and tempo. It becomes part of the round, as essential as the turf beneath your feet.

Reached By Intention
This is a place reached by intention. Dunaverty is not passed through on the way to somewhere else. You come because you want to play golf that feels rooted and honest. Golf that asks you to pay attention. To trust feel. To accept what the land gives you.
There is a quiet confidence here. No need for spectacle or scale. Just a sequence of holes that belong exactly where they are. It is golf reduced to what matters most. A reminder that the game does not need embellishment when the setting is allowed to lead.
Tracks Less Taken exists to document courses like this. Places that reward curiosity and care. Dunaverty remains one of them. Unassuming. Exposed. And deeply satisfying for those willing to make the journey.
