THE OFFCUT PROJECT | EDITION 1: HIUT DENIM (SELVEDGE DENIM KUROKI MILLS AND ORGANIC IKSO MILL DENIM) GOLF HEADCOVERS
DENIM HEADCOVERS
As part of our continued focus on craftsmanship and sustainability, we decided to launch the Offcut Projects. Working with likeminded brands who focus on the artisan led approach to making product and who themselves have a focus on sustainable fabrics and materials, we utilise the cuts of fabrics that would otherwise go to waste to create a variety of products at our workshop in Scotland.
The 1st edition, we work with our friends at Hiut Denim Co, a specialist denim maker based in Cardigan, Wales. Their use of Japanese Selvedge denim, in itself an artisan led premium fabric and Organic Denim made this an easy choice for our 1st edition. In this range we have made head covers for your driver, fairway wood and hybrids. Each headcover is still designed for easy removal on the golf course and will provide a unique style to your golf bag.
A little bit about Hiut Denim Co.
Do One Thing Well.
We make jeans. That’s it. Nothing else. No distractions. Nothing to steal our focus. No kidding ourselves that we can be good at everything. No trying to conquer the whole world. We just do our best to conquer our bit of it. So each day we come in and make the best jeans we know how. Use the best quality denims. Cut them with an expert eye. And then let our ‘Grand Masters’ behind the sewing machines do the rest.
There is a great deal of satisfaction to be gained from making something well, of such superior quality that you know it is going to stand the test of time. It makes the hard work and the obsessing over each and every detail worth all the effort. That’s our reward. That’s why we stick to just making jeans. Yup, we just make jeans. That’s all folks
KUROKI MILL, JAPANESE SELVEDGE DENIM
We utilised navy blue 14oz selvedge denim from the famous Kuroki Mill in Japan and Organic denim from the leading sustainable denim mill, Isko to create a limited range of the highest quality denim headcovers.
Japanese selvedge denim is renowned for its high premium quality and heavier weight fabric, up to 28oz per square yard, and is recognized as the best premium denim fabric in the world. It's the real thing and has a distinctive look different to standard denim.
Japanese denim has a reputation for being the best in the world, known for its premium construction and the skilled artisanal craft required to make it. Denim was introduced to Japan after World War 2 and American culture, the American classic look and vintage clothing quickly became a fascination among the Japanese youth wairing blue jeans with riveted coin pocket details.
While many big manufacturers started to favour cheaper mass production machinery, the Japanese looking to create the perfect jeans, experimented with reverting back to old techniques, producing selvedge products woven on old shuttle looms. This required more skill and craftsmanship, leading to a tighter denser weave.
Japan’s obsession with American jeans led them to become the world’s best denim manufacturers in terms of knowledge and technique. From the indigo dyeing and cotton warp yarning, to the weaving and finishing of the cloth.
Our Selvedge Master and Selvedge Atelier are lined with Harris Tweed, a perfect material combination which will add a unique twist and additional protection to your golf club.
