Welcome to The 35th Club.
Where old fairways still speak — and good company listens.
Founded in 1867, Kilspindie holds a quiet but enduring place in the story of golf. As the 35th oldest club in the world, it stands among the earliest to shape the game’s evolution — its original layout stretching across the Peffer Burn before settling on the current links at Aberlady Bay.
From its earliest days, Kilspindie built a reputation for warmth and welcome. Many of the non-course-owning clubs that first played their annual matches here still return over a century later. Through the lean years of war and the highs of golf’s golden ages, the club has remained a place where the game is played in its purest form — brisk air, firm turf, and nothing between you and the shot but the sea breeze.
Its traditional links have seen little change in over a hundred years, making it a magnet for hickory enthusiasts and lovers of the old game. Two stone remnants — the Target and the Magazine — still stand sentinel on the course, quiet witnesses to a time when golfers shared the land with a local rifle club.
Today, Kilspindie remains a cherished corner of Scottish golf. Modest in length, rich in challenge, and steeped in a kind of heritage that’s best experienced, not just told.
The event will open at 1pm, allowing players to register, collect their starter packs, warm up at the range and grab some pre-round refreshments.
First tee time for the event is 2.32pm onwards.
Pairs Stableford – Better Ball
Competition powered by Fairgame
(Specialists in social golf events and tournaments)
Each player plays their own ball throughout, with the team’s score on each hole taken from the higher Stableford points earned by the pair.
Handicaps are welcome across the board — with a maximum playing handicap of 28. All entries will be adjusted using the course and slope rating, applying the standard 90% allowance.
Enter as a pair, or solo — and we’ll match you up.
Whether old friends or new company, the game plays the same.
As the final putts drop and the light softens over Aberlady Bay, we gather fireside to continue the day in true Kilspindie fashion.
Enjoy a relaxed post-round BBQ and evening social — honest fare, a dram or two, and good company.
Then, settle in for a special fireside conversation hosted by James Henderson of Top100GolfCourses.com, joined by Boris from Jack White Golf. Together, they’ll explore the rich legacy of Scottish clubmakers, the history woven through Kilspindie’s fairways, and the enduring stories that have shaped the game — from handcrafted woods to the modern renaissance of golf.
Part discussion, part tribute — it’s a chance to listen, reflect, and share in the quieter side of the game
The 35th Club: The Open at Kilspindie is co-hosted with Top100GolfCourses.com, bringing together deep knowledge of the game’s finest courses with one of its most historic.
We’re proud to be joined by our event partners:

– Marine & Lawn — curators of iconic golf-side hospitality across Scotland and Ireland.
– Fyfe Golf — makers of handcrafted golf goods, woven to the game in Scotland.
Prizes on the day will include special items from Fyfe Golf and Marine & Lawn, with rewards for competition winners, standout moments, and on-course challenges.
Each partner reflects a shared spirit — one that values craft, place, and the quieter traditions of the game.
